Highlights
March 4
The Health Department has just received notice of an award to join the National WIC Association-CDC Community Partnerships for Healthy Mothers and Children project. This 15-month opportunity includes planning, action and evaluation funding for Healthy Options Restaurants, a new ESHC initiative: “The Business Case for Breastfeeding,” and WIC Outreach. The Health Department is acting as the lead agency for Eastern Shore Healthy Community’s collective impact effort to reduce chronic disease through policy, systems and environmental change strategies. It targets two risk factors: poor nutrition and lack of access to chronic disease prevention, risk reduction and management opportunities. The targeted population is mothers and children. This is exciting news and we look forward to hearing more about this initiative and about ways that partners can become involved from Scott Chandler, Administrative Manager for Eastern Shore Health District.
April 9
POP Talk. Power of Partnership Talks allow ESHC partners to share visions with other organizations with similar missions. In April we feature Lions Club International. Their free eye screenings for children and camp for children with Diabetes provide important community service. Join us to learn more.
May
POP Talk. Literacy is critical to health. Join us to hear more about the Eastern Shore’s Literacy Council, their outreach and good work.
June
No regular meeting will be held in June. Instead, the Executive Committee and Work Group Chairs will conduct a Planning Retreat on Thursday, June 7 at YMCA’s Camp Silver Beach.
